If you do not already have the supported NetWare clients on your network, you can use the older NETX(ODI) client, provided on the NetWare 9000 version 4.1 Client Utility Disk, to establish initial connectivity to the supported software on your server.

Note that the NETX(ODI) client is not supported for general use with NetWare 4.1.

  1. Set the server's bindery_context.

The server's bindery context should be equal to the value specified for Organization Name in dsinstall. Log into the HP 9000 as root and use the command-line utility nwcm to view the bindery context:

    nwcm -v ds_bindery_context

    If the system displays:

    ds_bindery_context=""

indicating that bindery context is null, or if it does not match the Organization Name used in dsinstall, or if you do not know the Organization Name, see Steps 1a and 1b following. Otherwise proceed to Step 2.

    1. Find the Organization Name. (If you already know the Organization Name, skip to Step 1b).

At the completion of dsinstall, a message like this is displayed.

For your information (note these for future
reference along with the Administrator password):
      Directory tree name: RILEY_TREE
      Directory context: O=hp
      Administrator name: CN=Admin.O=hp

      Press <Enter> to continue.

The Organization Name specified is shown as O=Organization Name. In this example, the line

      Administrator name: CN=Admin.O=hp

indicates that the Organization Name is hp.

If you do not know this name, you can use dsinstall to find it. Enter dsinstall and select Remove Directory Services from this server (you will not actually remove NDS).

When you get the Warning message:

Warning: Do NOT remove the Directory unless absolutely necessary. The Directory is a database of information distributed across multiple servers.

      .
      .
      .

      Press <Enter> to continue.

Press <Enter> as directed. When prompted with:

      Remove Directory Services?

      No
      Yes

Choose Yes in order to proceed to the screen that contains the Organization Name.

Next you will see a screen similar to this:

      Directory Services Login/Authentication
      Administrator Name: CN=Admin.O=hp
      Password:

      Do NOT enter a password!

Note the value of the Organization Name (O=...). In this example, O=hp indicates that the Organization Name is hp.

Use the [esc] key twice and choose Yes to exit dsinstall.

    2. Use SAM or the command-line utility nwcm to set the bindery context equal to Organization Name:

      nwcm -s ds_bindery_context="O=organization_name"

      For example:

      nwcm -s ds_bindery_context="O=hp"

Assuming the Organization Name is hp, you would then get the output:

      ds_bindery_context="O=hp"

Note that NetWare will have to be restarted for your change to take effect.

  2. Unpack the NETX(ODI) archive from the floppy to the PC.

    1. Insert the NetWare 4.1/9000 Client Utility Disk into the PC.

    2. Create a directory for the client software, such as C:\NETWARE, on the PC.

    3. Change to the C:\NETWARE directory and, assuming the floppy is in drive A:, enter the command:

      C:\NETWARE>a:odi_unpk

  3. Start the client.

To do so, refer to the sample batch file LOADODI.BAT included with the NETX(ODI) software for the proper sequence of commands to start the client.
