NetWare Virtual Terminal (NVT) allows a NetWare client to
access the host computer via a terminal session without loading
the TCP/IP protocol.
NVT requires that the NetWare client and NetWare 9000 transport
protocols are started. The NetWare 9000 file services do not need
to be started.
If you are upgrading NetWare 9000 version 3.11 to 4.1, you
must upgrade your NVT clients to support
the new NVT (NVT2). If you have already updated to NVT2, provided
with the 3.12 product, you do not need to upgrade the client. However,
you may wish to update to the latest version of NVT.EXE provided
with the 4.1 product.

 | NOTE: The NVT.EXE version that is provided is v2.05. Although
this NVT client option is provided as a convenience to customers,
it is not supported by Hewlett-Packard |

Upgrading NVT Clients from Version 1 to NVT2 |
 |
Clients using version 1 of NVT, which was part of NetWare
9000 version 3.11, must be upgraded to NVT2. To do so, use the version
of NVT.EXE provided on the NetWare 4.1 server in SYS:\PUBLIC
in place of the old version. If the client has a locally-installed
copy, replace it with the copy on the 4.1 server. Otherwise, you
can run the server copy directly from the client.
NVT Versions and Client Platforms
The following table defines which NVT versions are usable
on different PC operating systems.

To install the Windows-based Host Presenter for Windows 3.1
and 3.11, go to the directory referenced in the table and click
SETUP.EXE.
Using NVT.EXE
To use NVT, start the NetWare NETX(ODI) client, then NVT.EXE.
If the client will be accessing both NetWare 9000 version
3.11 and 3.12 servers (or other vendors' NetWare for UNIX
3.11 servers), use the following option when you start NVT on the
client:
NVT -o
To view NVT options, execute the command: NVT -?.
Start your terminal emulator software.
