NetWare Services provides two core utilities for configuring and managing your network print services: NetWare Administrator and PCONSOLE. NetWare Administrator is a graphical utility available on Windows workstations and PCONSOLE is a NetWare menu utility available from the DOS prompt. The utility you select depends primarily on your printing environment needs and your own software preferences. In addition, several supplemental utilities are provided for managing specific printing needs; these are described in the following sections.

If you are most comfortable with Windows applications, you can use NetWare Administrator on a Windows system. And, if you're accustomed to NetWare printing utilities, you may want to use the DOS utility PCONSOLE.

The following table describes each utility and points you to the relevant chapter in this book.

Table 1-1 NetWare Services Print Configuration Utilities

Supplemental Printing Utilities

In addition to the three core printing utilities, NetWare Services provides several supplemental utilities, designed to meet specific printing needs for users on DOS, Windows, Win 95, or NT workstations. These utilities are not available for HP-UX clients.

The following table describes these utilities.

Table 1-2 Supplemental Printing Utilities

Utility

Tasks

NetWare User Tools (Windows, Win 95, NT)

Enables users to access network resources, map drives, set up printing, and send messages. Printing tasks include setting printer options, connecting and disconnecting print queues, and making print queue connections permanent.

For information on the NetWare Tools, see NetWare Client for DOS and Windows User Guide.

CAPTURE (DOS )

Redirects workstation output to a network printer or file.

For information on CAPTURE, see "Using CAPTURE" in Chapter 4.

NPRINT (DOS)

Prints files from outside applications.

For information on NPRINT, see "Using NPRINT" in Chapter 4.

NETUSER (DOS)

Captures workstation output to a network printer, prints files from outside an application, and monitors print queues. Sends, redirects, monitors, modifies, or deletes print jobs.

For information on NETUSER, see "Using NETUSER" in Chapter 9.

PRINTCON (DOS)

Creates, modifies, and deletes print job configurations to simplify using the CAPTURE, NPRINT, and PCONSOLE utilities.

For information on PRINTCON, see "Printing Tasks Handled through PRINTCON" in Chapter 7.

PRINTDEF (DOS)

Defines printer forms for use in CAPTURE, NPRINT, and print job configurations. Defines print devices in a database for use in print job configurations.

For information on PRINTDEF, see "Printing Tasks Handled through PRINTDEF" in Chapter 8.
