Because delivering an OpenPix image requires more processing
than delivering a static image, the number of OpenPix images on
the page also affects performance. In certain circumstances, such
as Netscape browsers using the Java viewer, the client may support
only four to six OpenPix images per page.
We recommend that you reserve OpenPix for high-value, high-information
imagery. OpenPix is intended primarily for rich, photographic-style
images. Graphics such as line art and pie charts display well with
OpenPix, but optimal performance is usually achieved with GIF or
PNG static images. For example, it's usually better to
use static images rather than OpenPix images for small icons, especially
when there are many on a page.
