Before you install the HP RAID 4Si product, check to make sure you have met the following hardware and software prerequisites:

  • You have the HP RAID 4Si Release Note, so that you can check it for any known problems, required patches, or other information you need for installation.

  • For HP-UX 11.0, you have the Application CD-ROM that contains the HP RAID 4Si software. (For HP-UX 11i, the software is automatically installed as part of the Operating Environment [OE] installed on your system.)

  • You have the HP RAID 4Si controller you want to install.

  • You have planned your disk configurations (see “Planning Your Disk Configurations”).

  • You have super-user ( root) privileges.

  • The HP-UX operating system is the correct version. To determine the version you are using, use this command:

    uname -a

See the HP RAID 4Si Release Note for information about the required operating system versions.

  • The /usr/sbin, /sbin, and /usr/sbin/irm directories are in your PATH statement. To do this, log in as root and use this command:

    echo $PATH

  • You have any tools needed for installing components in your HP-UX system (for example, screwdrivers); see the system's documentation.

CAUTION: If a file system currently exists on the JBOD, back it up if you want to retain the file system and data. Creating the RAID drives will destroy any data on the disks.

After you are sure you have met the prerequisites, go to the next section, “Installing the HP RAID 4Si Software”.
