We strongly recommend that
the HP RAID 4Si controller have the latest controller firmware version
(see the HP RAID 4Si Release Note for information
about the firmware version). If you need to upgrade the firmware,
see “Downloading the Controller
Firmware” for the
steps for downloading the firmware to the controller.
Also, the controller must have a clear configuration, which
is the default for new controllers. If you are installing the controller
in a system for the first time, it should already have a clear configuration.
However, if the controller was previously installed in another system,
you must ensure that it has a clear configuration. The reason is
that starting with version U.01.04 of the firmware, the controller
gets the RAID configuration from the physical disks. (Earlier versions
of the firmware did not do this, and you had to run IRM to specify
the configuration you wanted to use.)
To clear the configuration information in the controller's
NVRAM, follow these steps:
Start IRM.
From the "Management
Menu," select Configure.
From the "Configure" menu,
select Clear Configuration.
You are asked to confirm that you want to clear the
existing configuration.
If you do not want to clear the
configuration, select NO. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu.
Go to step 5.
If you want to clear the configuration, select YES. Any current configuration in the controller's
non-volatile memory is erased. Press any key; you are placed in
the "Configure" menu. Go to step 5.
Press Esc. You are placed in the "Management Menu."
Press Esc. An exit confirmation dialog box displays.
Highlight YES and press Enter; IRM ends.
Go to the next section, “Setting the DIP Switches”.
