After the system reboots, verify that the installation was successful by following these steps:

  1. Issue this command:

    ioscan -kfn

If the HP RAID 4Si software and hardware are installed correctly, the generated output could look like this:

    i2o 1 0/6/0/1 iop_drv CLAIMED INTERFACE IOP
    ext_bus 5 0/6/0/1.0 bs_osm CLAIMED INTERFACE I20 Block Storage

Check the ioscan output to ensure that the iop_drv and bs_osm (shown as bold in the above example, for highlighting purposes) are present and CLAIMED for each HP RAID 4Si controller in the HP-UX system.

If the software is not installed correctly, re-install it using swinstall (see “Installing the HP RAID 4Si Software”).

  2. Issue this command:

    irdisplay

If the controller is installed correctly, the generated output could look like this:

    ********************************************************************
    Internal RAID Controller 0/6/0/1

    Device File: /dev/iop1
    Product ID: 467
    Firmware Version: U.01.06
Number of Logical Drives Configured: 0
    Maximum Concurrent Commands Supported: 254
Maximum Targets Supported per Channel: 16
    Number of Channels: 4
    Flush Interval: 4
    Rebuild Rate: 30
    Dram Size (Mb): 128
    Battery Pack: Connected
    Battery Status: Charging Completed
    Battery Temperature: Good
    Battery Voltage: Good
PCI to PCI Bridge Hardware Path: 0/6/0/0
PCI to PCI Bridge Driver: PCItoPCI (Class ba Instance 7)
    Adapter Hardware Path: 0/6/0/1
    Adapter Driver: iop_drv (Class i2o Instance 1)

If the controller is not installed correctly, irdisplay generates the message No Internal RAID controllers found instead of the above information. Some possible causes you should check are as follows:

    • The required patches are not installed.

    • The HP RAID 4Si driver is not installed.

    • The controller is not seated properly in the system's slot.

    • The cables are not connected to the controller and/or JBODs correctly.

    • Some kind of misconfiguration exists (see “Common Misconfigurations”).

After you have checked all of these possible causes, repeat this step (step 2).

  3. Once the software and controller are installed correctly, go to the next chapter, Chapter 3 “Configuring the HP RAID 4Si Product”
