This section describes the steps for an Automatic Configuration. Note that these steps assume you have started IRM and (if applicable) selected the HP RAID 4Si controller you want to configure.

In Automatic Configuration, IRM scans the physical drives connected to the HP RAID 4Si controller and automatically configures them into arrays and logical drives. If three or more physical drives are connected, the default configuration is RAID 5; if two drives are connected, the default configuration is RAID 1. Automatic Configuration does not allow you to do spanning.

Note that, if one or more logical drives and/or Hot Spares are already configured when you select Automatic Configuration, that configuration information is not disturbed.

Menu path: "Management Menu" → ConfigureAutomatic Configuration

You are asked to confirm that you want to proceed with the Automatic Configuration.

  1. If you do not want to continue, highlight NO and press the Enter key. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu; go to step 4.

If you want to continue, highlight YES and press the Enter key; go to step 2.

  2. The Automatic Configuration starts.

Note that if all of the physical drives connected to the controller are already configured, you get a message saying no space is available for more logical drives. Press any key to continue. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu; go to step 4.

When the configuration is complete, the "Logical Drives Configured" screen displays, showing a list of all the controller's configured logical drives. You are placed in the "Save Configuration" dialog box. Go to step 3.

  3. If you do not want to save the configuration as it is, highlight NO and press the Enter key. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu; go to step 4.

If you want to save the configuration as it is, highlight YES and press the Enter key. After the configuration for the controller has been saved, a confirmation message displays. Press any key to continue. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu; go to step 4.

  4. Press Esc; you are placed back in the "Management Menu."

  5. Press Esc; an exit confirmation dialog box displays.

  6. Highlight YES and press the Enter key; IRM ends.
