You can delete only the last logical drive that was configured. This is because of how the SCSI device files are associated with logical drives, and because logical drives are always sequentially numbered beginning with 0. Here is an example to illustrate this:

You have logical drives 0, 1, and 2 configured, with file systems mounted to each of the logical drives, as follows:

File system /raid/disk0, /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 → logical drive 0
File system /raid/disk1, /dev/dsk/c0t1d0 → logical drive 1
File system /raid/disk2, /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 → logical drive 2

If you were able to delete logical drive 1 (which is not the last logical drive that was configured), then logical drive 2 would be renumbered to logical drive 1. This would give you the following:

File system /raid/disk0, /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 → logical drive 0
File system /raid/disk1, /dev/dsk/c0t1d0 → was logical drive 2
File system /raid/disk2, /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 → no logical drive

This would result in the /raid/disk1 file system reading from and writing to the data that was previously in the /raid/disk2 file system, which would not be correct.

The steps to delete a logical drive are described below. Note that these steps assume you have started IRM and (if applicable) selected the HP RAID 4Si controller the logical drive is configured on.

Menu path: "Management Menu" → ConfigureDelete Last Logical Drive

A warning dialog box displays, and you are asked if you want to proceed to delete the logical drive.

  1. If you do not want to delete the logical drive, highlight NO and press the Enter key. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu; go to step 2.

If you want to delete the logical drive, highlight YES and press the Enter key. The last logical drive that was configured is deleted from the controller's configuration. After the drive has been deleted, a confirmation message displays. Press any key to continue. You are placed back in the "Configure" menu; go to step 2.

  2. Press Esc; you are placed back in the "Management Menu."

  3. Press Esc; an exit confirmation dialog box displays.

  4. Highlight YES and press Enter; IRM ends.
