Q: Can HPjconfig be used on HP-UX 10.20 systems?
A: No. Only HP-UX 11.x is supported.
Q: Can HPjconfig be used on HP-UX 11.20 and 11.22 for the ItaniumŪ-based systems?
A: Yes, you can use HPjconfig on Itanium-based systems. Be sure to read the rest of these FAQs and the release notes (Java technical documentation) for any known issues.
Q: I don't seem to be getting the latest HP-UX patches required for the SDK when I run HPjconfig. Is there anyway I can get the tool to automatically check for the latest required patches on the HP-UX 11i Java Patch Information page?
A: HPjconfig tries to get to the latest list of patches off the site. If you've configured your system to work through a proxy server with Netscape, it should automatically detect and use those settings. However, if you wish to use another proxy server, or your Netscape is configured in such a manner that it won't connect properly, you can do so by running HPjconfig with the following command line options:

java -cp HPjconfig.jar:HPjconfig_data.jar \
-Dproxy=<host name of your proxy server, for example web-proxy> \
-Dport=<your proxy port number, for example 8088> HPjconfig

Q: When I run HPjconfig, I get a screenfull of text, at the bottom of which it says "You may need to put 'kmtune' in your path."
A: Probably your path variable is not set correctly. kmtune needs to be in your path. For example, in ksh, if your kmtune command is in /usr/sbin, you would enter:

export PATH=/usr/sbin:$PATH

Note that your local system setup may be different—ask your system administrator for assistance, if needed.

Q: I am trying to run HPjconfig and get a NullPointerException. Is there a work around or fix to this problem?
A: A defect exists in which the command kmtune can only be run as super-user. This problem is scheduled to be corrected in HP-UX 11.22. The work around depends on which HP-UX version you are using.

  • For HP-UX 11.0 PA-RISC, install patch PHCO_26060 or the patch that supercedes it. Or, run HPjconfig with super-user access.

  • For HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC, install patch PHCO_26061 or the patch that supercedes it. Or, run HPjconfig with super-user access.

  • For HP-UX 11.20 IPF, run HPjconfig with super-user access, or upgrade to HP-UX 11.22 when it becomes available.

  • For HP-UX 11.22 IPF, the problem is scheduled to be fixed in this release.

Visit the HP-UX 11i Java Patch Information page for instructions on how to download patches.

Q: I have a suggestion for adding support for a particular server model and Java application type to HPjconfig. Where should I send it?
A: For information about sending your bug reports and feedback to HP, please see the HP-UX 11i Java product support page.
