introduction

Java™, the programming language, creates a new paradigm of platform independence, meaning that Java™ applications, once written, can be executed on any computer system.

The HP-UX Programmer's Guide for Java™ 1 provides information on how to use the HP-UX Developer's Kit for Java™ and the HP-UX SDK, for the Java™ 1 Platform to develop or deploy performance-enhanced Java™ applications on HP servers and PA-8600-based workstations.

This guide supplements other HP documentation and industry-standard Java™ documentation, such as the Java™ Series books published by Addison-Wesley, the second edition of "Java™ in a Nutshell" by David Flanagan, published by O'Reilly and Associates, "Teach Yourself Java™ in 21 Days" by Laura Lemay and Charles L.Perkins, published by Sams.net, and "Java™ How to Program" by H. M. and P. J. Deitel, and "Core JAVA" by Gary Cornell and Cay S. Horstmann, published by Prentice Hall.
