You can change the password information used by a principal that includes:

  • Password expiration date - indicates when the current principal's password expires. Check the Password Expiration Date box to activate password expiration for the current principal. If this function is not enabled, then the current principal's password will never expire.

  • Key version number - indicates the number of times that a password has been changed by the principal.

  • Key Types - The available key options are triple DES (3DES) and / or DES encryption.

  • Salt Types - A value that is used by the secret-key algorithm to create a unique encrypted key even for identical passwords within a single system. Salts also allow unique keys on two separate systems to use the same password.

To change the password information

  1. In the kadminl_ui window, choose the Principals tab and select the prinicpals realm.

  2. Find the principal using the List All or Search button.

  3. Select the principal name from the List of Principals and click Edit. The Principal Information window appears.

  4. In the Password tab, change the password information for the current principal.

  5. Click OK to accept the new password information.

WARNING! By changing the key and / or salt types, you necessitate a change in a principal's password. You must inform the principal of the required temporary password. The principal must change their password at their next logon.

You can use the Edit menu to quickly reload default values or to restore previously saved values at any time while you are editing a principal. When you reload default or restored values, all the fields in the Principal Information window tabs are reset to the default or previously saved values.
