Starting the Server (iaaaDiameter)

iaaaDiameter is the program that starts Mobile AAA server, receives the Diameter messages, and sends messages to other Diameter machines. These messages come to iaaaDiameter in the form of TCP packets conforming to the Diameter protocol.

The Start button allows you to run the iaaaDiameter command to start the Mobile AAA servers. The Server Manager Message frame will display a notification that the Mobile AAA server succeeded or failed to start.

Selecting the Options icon for the Start button, displays the Start Options screen, which allows you to specify iaaaDiameter arguments.

Table 4-2 Options for the Starting the Mobile AAA Server

Option

Description

Diameter Port

Specifies the TCP non-TLS listen port, overriding the 1812 default.

Diameter TLS Port

Specifies the TCP TLS listen port, overriding the 1822 default.

Debug Level

Specifies the debug level. Higher levels write more information to the diameter.debug file. Increasing this value can cause performance of the Diameter server to decline.

Zap Logfile

Empties (zaps) the logfile and debug file when the server is started.

Reset Session Table

Empties stored session table at server startup.

IMPORTANT: This option is only intended for experimental use or testing and not for a live production server. If you reset a production server, the server will lose track of sessions that are still active.
Logging Mechanism

Select either logfile, syslog or stderr logging to determine where logging will occur.

Enable Accounting

Yes or No to enable or disable logging accounting records.

IMPORTANT: Modified start options will not take effect until the server is stopped and restarted by selecting the Start button.
NOTE: The default setting for IAAADIAMETER in /etc/rc.config.d/iaaaDiameter.conf is 0, which means the iaaaDiameter daemon will not restart after a system reboot. Changing the setting to 1 will cause the daemon to start after a system reboot.

Stopping and Restarting the Server

It is necessary to stop and restart the server to update it with configuration changes. The Stop button allows you to stop iaaaDiameter running on the Mobile AAA servers. When you select the Stop button, you are first prompted with a message to confirm that you wish to stop the server. If the server can not be stopped, the administrator will be notified of the problem in the Message frame. Start the server by selecting the Start button.

CAUTION: Stopping a live server in production will result in an interruption of service for your users.
