The following terms are commonly used to discuss VM Manager and its integrated components:

A

APA 

Automatic Port Aggregation. A combination of LAN ports that can be accessed through a single interface name.


D

dedicated vswitch 

A vswitch that is dedicated to use by a certain virtual machine. This type of vswitch cannot be shared by multiple virtual machines running at the same time.


H

host 

The controlling operating system that allows multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) to be booted on a single server or nPartition.


HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager 

The management application responsible for managing and configuring HP Integrity Virtual Machines. Also called VM Manager.


M

managed node 

A system running under SIM.


managed system 

See managed node.


N

NIC 

Network Interface Card. Also called LAN card or PPA.


S

shared vswitch 

A vswitch than can be used by more than one virtual machine.


V

virtual machine 

Virtual hardware system.


Virtual Machine console 

The user-mode application that provides console emulation for virtual machines. Each instance of the Virtual Machine console is one console session for its associated virtual machine.


vswitch 

Virtual switch.


W

WBEM 

Web-Based Enterprise Management. A set of Web-based information services standards developed by the Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. A WBEM provider offers access to a resource. WBEM clients send requests to providers to get information about, and access to, the registered resources.
