This section describes limitations specific to HP-UX guest installation
and management.
Do not run live kernel debuggers inside a guest |
 |
Do not run tools that write kernel text, such as live kernel debuggers
and performance tools such as kgmon and ktracer inside
a guest. Under rare circumstances, these tools cause the guest to panic.
SCSI MPT driver upgrade required in HP-UX 0505 guests |
 |
For guests running HP-UX 11i V2 May 2005, HP recommends installing the
Integrity VM guest management software in all guests, and upgrading the U320
SCSI MPT driver in the guests to Version B.11.23.03. Updating this driver
enhances the performance and stability of the Integrity VM I/O subsystem.
Failure to install the updated driver compromises the performance and stability
of the virtual machines that run on the VM Host system. The HP-UX guest software
depot is found in the VM Host directory /opt/hpvm/guest-images/hpux.
To install the guest software, follow the instructions in the README file
included in this directory.
The latest driver is available free of charge. You can access it through
HP's Software Depot homepage. Search for A7173A and click on the “HP
A7173A PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Host Bus Adapter” link. The
MPT driver is updated in HP-UX 11i V2 December 2005. Therefore, if the guest
is running the December 2005 version of the operating system and later, it
is not necessary to install the updated driver.
After downloading the driver, install the driver depot file using the swinstall command.
You should install the Integrity VM guest management software in the
guest before you update the driver. If you update the driver before you install
the guest management software, reboot the virtual machine after updating the
driver. See the HP Integrity Virtual Machines Installation, Configuration,
and Administration manual for information on installing the guest
management software.
iCAP commands fail on HP-UX guests |
 |
iCAP is installed as part of the HP-UX OS installation. A problem with
HP-UX 11i V2 0606 and HP–UX 11i V2 0609 releases causes install-time configuration
of iCAP to report failure with messages similar to the following:
 |
NOTE: Checking for partitionable system.
ERROR: Software configuration has failed. After addressing the issues
in the following output, configure this software with
'swconfig B9073BA'.
ERROR: Command not allowed to run on a Virtual Machine Guest.
ERROR: The "configure" script for "iCOD.ICOD-RUN" failed (exit code
"1"). The script location was
"/var/adm/sw/products/iCOD/ICOD-RUN/configure".
* This script had errors and the execution of this fileset
cannot proceed until the problem is fixed. Check the above
output from the script for further details.

These startup messages (which may appear in /etc/rc.log)
may be disregarded.
iCAP commands cannot be used on virtual machines. iCAP commands are
designed to work on the VM Host system.
