VM Manager Tasks

Virtual Machines Manager (also called VM Manager) is a tool that system administrators use to create, monitor, and evaluate HP Integrity Virtual Machines (Integrity VM). Integrity VM is software that allows the creation of software-controlled Itanium-based virtual machines that share a single set of physical hardware resources. Each virtual machine (VM) is a complete environment in which a normal operating system can run. Like a real machine, the virtual machine contains:

  • At least one CPU

  • Memory

  • Disks

  • Networking cards

  • A keyboard

  • A console

  • Other components of a computer

All these elements are virtual, meaning that they are at least partially emulated in software rather than fully implemented in hardware.

VM Manager is the graphical user interface (GUI) for Integrity VM for the management of a VM Host and its associated guests. The VM Host system administrator uses VM Manager to create, manage, and monitor Integrity VM.

VM Manager provides graphical views of virtual-to-physical network and storage, so you can visualize resources assigned to virtual machines. VM Manager lets you view all virtual machines in a VM Host, including resource utilization information.

VM Manager is available from either the HP System Management Homepage (HP SMH) or through seamless integration with VSE Management Software components in the HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) on the Central Management Server (CMS). For a complete list of the components in the VSE Management Software suite, see the VSE Management Software Quick Start Guide.
