To start a virtual machine, select Tools->Start Virtual Machine. When a virtual machine is started, it is in the On state (powered on). You can then perform the functions you want.

NOTE: Starting a virtual machine might not boot the operating system. Also, note that the physical resources defined for the virtual machine are then reserved for the virtual machine.
