The VSE Management Software should be installed on a server that is reserved for use as a CMS. Do not use this server to run other applications and services that are unrelated to HP SIM. Running additional unnecessary applications on this server can significantly affect the performance of HP SIM and the VSE Management Software. Table 2-2 “CMS Hardware Requirements” lists the minimum hardware requirements for a VSE CMS.

Table 2-2 CMS Hardware Requirements

CPU

HP 9000 (PA-RISC 2.0) or HP Integrity servers. Two or more cores are required on the CMS.

Physical Memory

Minimum memory required:

HP-UX 11i v1

3 GB

HP-UX 11i v2

3 GB

HP-UX 11i v3

4 GB

Minimum memory required to support maximum VSE configuration:

HP-UX 11i v1

4 GB

HP-UX 11i v2

4 GB

HP-UX 11i v3

5 GB

20 MB minimum for HP SIM

/opt

HP SIM requires 600 MB. The VSE Management Software requires an additional 95 MB.

/var/opt

Capacity Advisor requires between 18 MB and 24 MB per workload in order to retain two years of data. Allow for the automatically generated “whole-OS” workload for each managed system, in addition to the workloads that you define. For additional information, see capcollect(1M) and capprofile(1M).

Global Workload Manager requires at least 1 GB. If you intend to keep historical data, HP recommends allowing 4 GB for every 100 workloads managed by gWLM. If you are not interested in historical data, you can trim the historical database by using the following command:

# gwlm history --truncate

Log files are stored in /var/opt/gwlm and /var/opt/vse/logs. These logs are not automatically trimmed.

swap space
4 GB total swap space for PA-RISC systems
5 GB total swap space for Intel Itanium-based systems
