VSE Management Tool Is Not Available

If you are not authorized for the VSE Monitor Toolbox in HP SIM, then Tools->VSE Management... is not available on the HP SIM menu bar.

Workaround

Authorize all VSE Management Software users for the VSE Monitor Toolbox. for instructions see “Configuring User Authorizations” in the VSE Management Software Quick Start Guide Version A.03.00.00. These instructions can also be found in the “User Authorizations” topic in the VSE Management Software help system.

VSE Management Tool Displays Blank Page

The following two situations might cause selecting Tools->VSE Management... from the HP SIM menu bar to display a blank page.

Domain Name Service (DNS) Is Not Configured Correctly on the CMS

In this case, none of the HP SIM tools work. In particular, selecting Tools->VSE Management... from the HP SIM menu bar displays a blank page. Another symptom of this problem is that the command ping localhost on the CMS returns no response.

Workaround

Create or edit the file /etc/nsswitch.conf and add the following entry to the file:

hosts: files dns nis

If you are not using Network Information Services (NIS), omit nis from this entry.

You Are Not Authorized for the VSE Monitor Toolbox on the CMS and All Managed Systems

Workaround

Configure HP SIM toolbox authorizations as described in “Configuring User Authorizations” in the VSE Management Software Quick Start Guide Version A.03.00.00. This is also described in the VSE Management help topic “User Authorizations”.

Task Results Page Says "There are no available task results to display"

This message means there are currently no tasks that were executed by you in the task results cached list. Task results will appear after you select menu items that invoke commands that execute on managed nodes. An example of such a menu action is Configure->Configure VSE Agents->Install HP-UX VSE Agents.

This is a known defect in the HP SIM version C.05.00.02.00, where the task results might not appear immediately after executing the menu actions.

Workaround

Log out of the HP SIM Web browser user interface and log back in; the task results will be displayed.
