This chapter describes how to install X.25/ACC software using the SD (Software Distributor) utility swinstall. It also describes how to bring up the sample loopback configuration which can be used for testing the subsystem independent of external equipment. This can be used to verify that the hardware and software are properly installed and functional.

Read all of the instructions before starting, to ensure a sound basic understanding of the products and procedures.

The general steps for installing and configuring the X.25/ACC product are as follows. (Note that details for each step are given in the following sections.)

  • Install the ACC Multiplexer interface card or cards on your HP 9000 computer. (Refer to the appropriate ACC Multiplexer Hardware Installation and Reference Manual.)

  • Remove the previous version (if any) of the X.25/ACC subsystem using swremove and rebuild the kernel.

  • Retrieve software from the Application CD-ROM or other media using swinstall.

  • Follow steps in swinstall (see “Software Installation”) to build the new HP-UX kernel and reboot the system.

  • Validate the hardware and software installation using the described procedure.

It is highly recommended that the supplied loopback configuration be used to verify that the ACC hardware and the X.25/ACC Subsystem software have been properly installed and are functional.

NOTE: The software installation steps assume that you have already installed the appropriate version of the HP-UX operating system. You may choose to install network services such as ARPA/Berkeley Service, or X.400 either before installing X.25/ACC or afterwards.
