Power-down procedures apply to the rp2200 and management server blades. The chassis (blade server) is powered down only after all server blades are shut off.

Power-Down the bp2200 and Management Blades

Orderly power-down of the blade server requires that the bp2200 blade be powered-off first, then the Management blade. The following steps apply for powering-down both systems:

  1. Press the red tabs in on the left and right locking levers to start power-down. When the blue hot-swap LED illuminates, power-down is complete.

  2. The server blades can now be safely removed from the blade server.

CAUTION: If you are going to remove either of these blades, you must complete blade removal and replacement with either another blade of the same type or a slot blocker, within 3 minutes to comply with cooling requirements. Failure to do so may cause loss of data when overheating causes the blades to begin to power down.

Chassis Power-Down

The blade server is designed to run continuously. Under normal conditions, only the bp2200 and management server blades, both of which are hot-swappable, will be powered-off and on.

  • If there is time, ensure that no data is lost by performing an orderly shutdown of the server blades then pull the plug out of each power supply (if there is more than one).

  • If there is no time, however, simply pull the plug out of each power supply.

CAUTION: If an orderly shutdown of the server blades isn’t performed prior to power removal, all unsaved data located in the server blades at that time will be lost.
