As listed in Chapter 2, Table 2-1, the standard server blade as-shipped configuration for the blade server includes:

NOTE: Server blade slots are numbered from bottom to top on both the front (F) and rear (R). The bottom number is 1 and the top number is 10. For example, the Management blade always goes in slot F10. Front slots 7 and 8 are not used at this time. Rear Slots 1 through 8 are not used at this time, also.

Additional Fibre Channel Dual Disk Carrier blades are available and are described in the, “Fibre Channel (FC) Disk Carrier” section.

The blades may be inserted only in compatible slots on the chassis. Each slot is marked with a legend corresponding to the glyph located on the bulkhead of the blade that is to be inserted.

The identification legends, or glyphs, for each blade are indicated in the individual blade descriptions that follow.

Display Panel Blade Status Indicators

The display panel blade status indicators are located on the blade cooling fan assembly vertical panel (Figure 5-2 “Front View of Chassis With Blades Installed”). Table 5-1 “Display Panel Blade Status LED Definitions”lists the LED indications and definitions for server blades. There are two LEDs (one yellow, one green) for each front server blade.

Solid GreenStatus OK; blade is operating
Flashing GreenNon-critical user action required (e.g. boot prompt waiting for password)
Solid YellowFault or system crash has occurred
Flashing YellowPower is off or operator intervention is needed
