Changes to User Interface and
Platform
The following applies to both IA and PA systems:
- JAGaf38484
When diaglogd tries to write data in the FIFO of the
monitor, an error could occur. This error is logged in the diaglogd daemon
activity log.
Listed below is the error message.
___ERROR_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Diaglogd
received (/var/stm/data/cmc_em.fifo) bytes of log data, which is larger than
the maximum (cmc_em) bytes that can be sent via a FIFO pipe (10296) to EMS
monitor (0). Only (!) bytes were sent successfully. Diaglogd will try to send
the rest of the record the next time it checks it's internal hold list of
error entries and won't send any other data to this monitor until then.
___ERROR_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This
issue is fixed by replacing the garbled and out-of-order data, displayed in
the parenthesis in the above mentioned error, with relevant and meaningful
data.
- JAGaf37859
STM cannot be run by a non-root user because of a change in
the umask value for the root user. This is fixed.
- STM does not recognize devices with the pdn0 driver anymore.
- JAGaf48027
Firmware Update Tool fails on 11.23 PI systems because of
Interface Expansion (IE) changes.
- JAGaf48231
This release of STM identifies HP Storage Works Modular SAN
array 1500.
- JAGaf49623
This release of STM supports HP EVA XL and HP EVA XL Lite
Disk Arrays. No further tool support is provided for these arrays.
- JAGaf36171
When an unrecognized SCSI processor is connected to the
system, the ID module returns an uninitialized string to diagmond. If the
uninitialized string is a unicode character, MSTM crashes. This is fixed.
- JAGaf30446
SCSI decoder is enhanced to provide more detailed
description for "Unit Attention" condition of SCSI Device.
- JAGaf53947
On HP DVD-ROM 304, HP DVD-ROM 305 or PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-303
the expert tool prints the following caution statement before starting the
tool.
______CAUTION________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The
selected device, Optical Storage Device is not supported by this tool.
Unexpected results could occur as a result of executing the tools against the
selected device.
______CAUTION________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The
SCSI Expert tool has been modified to support HP DVD-ROM 304, HP DVD-ROM 305
and PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-303 devices and hence the caution message will not be
printed.
- JAGaf50160
If the disk does not support the log page counters, the Disk
Expert Tool will not display them.
- JAGaf52512
A new message is added to the dc_mpt_scsi decoder. The
Ultra320 SCSI mpt driver can detect Signal integrity errors, when operating at
a current speed and transfer rate. This new message describes to the user that
the driver is downshifting to new transfer rate.
- JAGaf36936
The System Information Tool does not display the correct
status of the power supplies when they fail. This is fixed.
- JAGaf47526
System Information Tool is enabled for PA8900 based
machines.
- JAGaf48231
The msamon monitor is enhanced to support MSA1500 monitor
and id-module.
- tlcomev is enhanced to decode Intelligent Platform Management Interface
(IPMI) type 2 events.
- slview is enhanced to display the decoded IPMI type 2 events.
- JAGaf51587; JAGaf51588
- ia64_corehw monitor AplLog content has been cleaned up and enhanced to
allow control of content level of detail.
- ia64_corehw monitor does not generate the non-existent event 102000.
- ia64_corehw monitor does not incorrectly suppresses event
103011.
- JAGaf34507
If open system call fails on any device file, the disk_em
monitor logs the hardware path information and the device file name in
/etc/opt/resmon/log/api.log file.
- JAGae62867
On the cstm prompt, if the users types rn, ru, rcf, rncf,
etc, they cannot return to cstm prompt without making a valid selection. This
problem is resolved now. The users will be asked to enter Cancel if they do
not want to make a selection.
- STM supports expanded hostname. If User Interface (UI) is running on HP-UX
11i v2 or later, for a valid connection, Unit Under Test (UUT) will also run
on HP-UX 11i v2 or later. The reverse is also true.
- The support for the following cards have been added to STM:
- HP AB545-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T 4-port 1000B-T Adapter
- HP PCI-X Next Generation 10 GigE (AB287A)
- Diagmond is enhanced to disregard connection from incompatible UI.
The following applies to IA systems only:
The following applies to PA systems only:
- Added support for vPar systems. Users can expect longer delay times for
most operations.
- JAGaf53750
Memlogd incorrectly reports that the PDT entry is invalid on
rp4440, rp3440 and C8000. This is fixed.
- JAGaf53767
Information tool for memory for rp8420-PA8900 and
rp7420-PA8900 is reporting 32 DIMM slots instead of the actual 16 DIMM slots
that are present on this class of machine. The Memory Information Tool is
fixed.
- JAGaf39374
The memlogd (Memory Error Logging Daemon) manpage in the
other files section had an incorrect name for the memlogd activity log
(/var/stm/logs/sys/memlogd_activity_log). This is corrected.
- JAGaf23521; JAGaf30728
Changes apply to dm_memory monitor.
- A PDT full event of severity CRITICAL is generated by the memory monitor
when the PDT is 100% full. The event number is 1400. This event has a
suppression time of 24hrs (that is, if the event is generated once, it will
not be generated again for 24 hrs).
- The events 3100-3300 have been disabled by default.
- If the user enables the events 3100-3300, then these events will be
generated when the number of Single Bit Errors on the same address exceeds
the specified threshold. There is no time window within which the threshold
is met.
- The events 4000-4200 are generated when the number of "unique" memory
addresses on the same DIMM meets the specified threshold, within the
specified time window.
- The cclogd manpage is update to have a section containing the list of
systems on which the daemon is supported.
- Updated memory diagnostic deamon to use 256 bytes of hostname which is now
returned by gethost name.
- JAGae36617
In the CPU expert tool, when the user selects a deconfigured
CPU for reconfiguration, all deconfigured CPUs were getting reconfigured. This
is fixed.
- The STM System Information Tool is enabled for long hostname
- JAGaf00056
Memory Information Tool can now display all the entries in
the memlog. This was restricted to 256 earlier.
- JAGaf37954
PA CPU Monitor (lpmc_em) fixed the problem wherein lpmc_em
used to log wrong Function Name in its error messages.
- JAGaf48634
The information tool on PCI interface reported incorrect
information. This behavior was a result of a bug in the way the hardware path
was being processed. This is fixed.
- Enhancements are made to the CPU Information and CPU Expert tools to
support A.04.01 vPar release.
- The system information tool is enabled to work with vPar A.04.01
- JAGaf49420
Memlogd on cell-based machines may hang in some cases due
to potential race conditions. As a result, the Memory Information Tool fails.
This is fixed.
- The memory tools are enabled for the following class of machines:
C8000-running on PA8900.
- JAGaf42474
The address reported by memlogd is in an incorrect format.
This format is not understood by the operating system and hence the action
taken by the operating system upon the occurrence of a Single Bit Error would
be incorrect. However, the DIMM slot reported by memlogd and the memory
monitor (dm_memory) is correct. Memlogd terminated the addresses reported to
32 bits. This resulted in the Memlog DIMM information and the PDT DIMM
information mismatch in case of higher addresses. The memlog reported the
correct address in this case. These problems are fixed. This fix requires the
firmware version 44.44 to be installed on the machine. If the firmware version
is 44.21 or lower, then the functionality of Memory Error logging daemon would
be broken and it would report all error addresses as zero.
Note:
This problem is visible on rp3440, rp4440 and C8000 machines only.
- JAGaf41283
Code changes are made to handle the diag2 ioctl return
values correctly.
- JAGaf26190
Code changes are made to support Processor sets for CPU
tools.
- JAGaf44229
System Information Tool recreates the sensor files if they
are not completely built.
- Enabled licensing for the following class of machines: C8000 running on
PA-8900
- JAGaf42491
The System Information Tool displays CPU information for
systems having greater than 16 CPUs also.

Known Problems
If the SysFaultMgmt product is installed on your system, you must take the
following steps, before and after updating the OnlineDiag product:
- Shut down the SysFaultMgmt subsystem via the command line:
/sbin/init.d/cimserver stop
- Perform the OnlineDiag update.
- After the update is completed, restart the SysFaultMgmt subsystem via the
command line:
/sbin/init.d/cimserver start
NOTE:Should you need to kill monitoring during normal system
operation, you must use steps 1 and 3, above, to avoid an automatic restart of
monitoring; step 2 is the action you need to perform while monitoring is turned
off.
Future updates to SysFaultMgmt and OnlineDiag will resolve this problem.
Problem: Memory Page Deallocation (MPD) is not available on the RX
4610.
Symptoms: The Memory Page Deallocation (MPD), which runs on most current
HP-UX computer systems, does not work on the RX 4610 computer. If you look in
the activity log for memlogd, you will see a message saying, "unsupported
device."
Cause/Action: MPD cannot be implemented on RX 4610, because of the design of
that system. The memlogd daemon cannot run on it.
Problem: Online help may not work for xstm diagnostics.
Symptoms: In xstm (the graphical interface for online diagnostics), no online
help appears when you enter a command for online help. The diagnostics
themselves are still functional.
Cause/Action: Online help for xstm requires that the Netscape browser be
installed on the computer. The xstm interface invokes the Netscape browser to
display .htm files located in the diagnostics sub-directories on disk. (The mstm
and cstm interfaces do not use the Netscape browser.)
The easiest way to install the Netscape browser is from the AR (Application
Release) Media supplied with the computer.
Alternative: Using any computer, you can view online help for xstm, mstm, and
cstm on the Internet at:
Defect Reporting
Use CHART to report defects in STM. The project name is diag.stm.tools.hpux
for individual tools, and diag.stm.ui.hpux for the user interface. If you don't
have access to CHART, contact an HP representative to enter a defect for
you.
