Disk Monitor (Events)

Note: Examples in the "Event Details" section are intended to show only the format and type of event data output; they are not necessarily true events. Values shown for some of the system- and device-detail data may be unrealistic. For example, CD-ROMs do not have grown-defect lists and thus cannot really emit events 2, 4, 6; the test output had to be forced.

Note: Events can be generated asynchronously or by polling; for SIO or WSIO systems. The simplest way to distinguish these events is to look in the event text for the line with the driver (logger) name:
Logger ID: disc30         = Asynchronous events (SIO systems) 

Logger ID: sdisk          = Asynchronous events (WSIO systems) 

Logger ID: disc30; sdisk  = Polled events have          
Rarely, a single machine will use both drivers. The event text will state which one logged the error and therefore which one belongs to the device in question. Polled events mention both drivers and have the same format for both drivers because they don't originate from logs anyway.

Event 2

Severity: Serious

Event Summary: Excessive recoverable media defect rate.

Event Class: I/O

Problem Description: The drive is experiencing an excessive rate of new recovered media defects.

Probable Cause / Recommended Action: All errors have been recovered and no data has been lost. However, the drive may fail due to an unrecoverable error in the near future and should be replaced.

Automated Recovery: None.

Event Generation Threshold: 1 occurrence

Fault Notifier Generation Threshold: Not used.

Event Summary: Drive is not responding.

Problem Description: The drive failed to respond to a Test Unit Ready command.
Probable Cause / Recommended Action: Check cables, power supply, ensre the drive is powered ON, and if needed replace the drive.

Event 11

Severity: Serious
Event Summary: Expected data was not found.
Event Class: I/O
Problem Description: As part of the polling functionality, the monitor periodically requests data from the device. The device did not return any data to the monitor in respose to it's query. The monitor was requesting data for Test Unit Ready command.
Probable Cause / Recommended Action: The interface card for the device or the device itself is not functioning correctly. Verify that the interface card is functioning properly by running Expert Tool for the card.
