Corrected Platform Error (CPE) Monitor for IA-64 Systems (cpe_em)

Monitor Description | Configuration Files

Monitor Description

The Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) Forward Progress Log (FPL) monitor is designed to monitor the IPMI FPL log entries on the system. IPMI is used by system firmware, the operating system, and other components to log both hardware failures, warnings and forward progress during system boot. This monitor will generate an Event Management Service (EMS) event to the user when an FPL log entry is found that indicates that an error has occurred or when a problem about which the user should be advised is discovered.

If a problem is detected, the monitor immediately sends an event to Event Monitoring Service, which alerts you using the notification methods defined for the monitor. Clear, concise error messages identify the problem, what caused it, and what must be done to correct it.

Examples of conditions monitored by the IPMI Forward Progress Log monitor are excessive system temperature, and fan and power supply failures or predicted failures.

The monitor is launched automatically when the system is started, ensuring that the system is protected from undetected hardware failure.

Release History

HP-UX 11.23: Initial release

HP-UX 11.11: HWE0312 or later

Supported Products

All HP-UX IPF systems running HP-UX 11.23 or later.

All HP-UX PA systems running HP-UX 11.11 with HWE0312 or later.

Special Requirements

The ia64_corehw monitor must be running.

Resource Path

Event monitoring: /system/events/ipmi_fpl

Monitor Name

/usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/tools/monitor/fpl_em

PSM State Control

Not supported.

Event History File

Not supported.

Configuration Files

Startup Configuration File (.sapcfg)

File name: /var/stm/config/tools/monitor/fpl_em.sapcfg

Default Entries: The monitor uses the standard default monitor request entries. See the Generic Monitor Data Sheet.

Monitor Configuration File (.cfg)

File name: /var/stm/config/tools/monitor/fpl_em.cfg

Default settings:

POLL_INTERVAL 5 minutes

Default Client Configuration File (.clcfg)

File name: /var/stm/config/tools/monitor/default_fpl_em.clcfg

The text in the event messages can be controlled by the client-configuration file. (This feature is only available in multiple-view hardware monitors, first introduced in the June 2000 release (IPR0006).)

System Information is reported under the "Additional System Data" label in the event messages. The defaults are the same for all monitors. See the Generic Monitor Data Sheet.

The "Component Data" feature of the client configuration file is not supported.

Note: Unlike other monitors, the fpl_em monitor will automatically generate it's client configuration file default_fpl_em.clcfg. The monitor uses a file that contains definitions of the IPMI events that are expected to occur on the system. This file is /var/stm/data/eventdef. When this file is updated, the .clcfg file will be automatically regenerated. When the default_fpl_em.clcfg file is regenerated, user changes to the previous version of the file will be overwritten.
