Release notes for IPF0603
Overview
Offline Diagnostics Environment (ODE) is a platform that enables you to
troubleshoot a system that is not booted to the operating system. You can
use ODE to troubleshoot a system on which you cannot use the Online Diagnostics
Tools. ODE is also useful for some types of testing in which it is not desirable
to have to boot to the operating system first, as is often the case in manufacturing environment.
The IPF Offline Diagnostics and Utilities CD is a comprehensive offline diagnostic solution.
The CD includes a suite of diagnostic tools belonging to the Offline Diagnostics Environment
(ODE) plus a collection of other useful diagnostic utilities.
New Features
CIODIAG2
- The Intel GigE LAN controller is reset after testing section 26 of the CIODIAG2 tool.
Section 26 of the CIODIAG2 tool runs successfully the first time, but fails thereafter. This issue is now fixed.
- Fixed bug on Sections 19 and 20 (Broadcom GigE tests) Internal memory
pattern subtest. The bug is exposed if testing a Broadcom 5704 LAN
controller.
The test fails to recognize the controller as a 5704. Instead it
assumes 5701.
The internal memory range for the 5704 is different from the 5701.
This results on an access to an unimplemented address and a data
miscompare for that address.
- Enhanced section 26 Intel GigE Internal loop back test to do more packets
(10000). This makes it consistent with Broadcom's similar internal loop back
test which does 10000 packets. The tests also runs faster.
ESCADIAG
Initial release.
FCFUPDATE
IODIAG
- Added support for 383701, A9899A, A9900A, AB290A, AD144A, and A7538A IO Cards.
MEMDIAG
- Added extender information for Titan registers output.
- Made minor change to Arches register output.
MOABDIAG
- The MOABDIAG tool hangs at section 4 with Skyline SBS 1.17.
- JAGaf89296
The MOABDIAG tool fails at section 4 if the f/w disconnects the
fabric link due to problem found during POST. This issue is fixed. Now, the MOABDIAG
tool generates a warning message.
DFDUTIL DFDUTILU COPYUTIL PERFVER
- No limitation for the number of SCSI, SAS, and FC device nodes.
TITANDIAG
Initial release.
Defect Fixes
DFDUTIL DFDUTILU COPYUTIL PERFVER
- Starting March 2006 release (IPF0603), there is no limitation for the number of nodes supported on
SCSI, SAS, and FC devices. Earlier to this relase, only 4096 nodes were supported.
CIODIAG2
- Fixed bug on Sections 19 and 20 (Broadcom GigE tests) Internal memory
pattern subtest. The bug is exposed while testing a Broadcom 5704 LAN
controller.
The test fails to recognize the controller as a 5704 LAN
controller. Instead it assumes 5701.
The internal memory range for the 5704 is different from the 5701.
This results in an access to an unimplemented address and a data
miscompare for that address.
Known Problems and Workarounds
Known Problems and Workarounds
CIODIAG2
- The CIODIAG2 tool must not be run without rebooting the machine, if an FTP
script has been executed. Else, the LAN tests will generate a Machine Check
Abort (MCA).
COPYUTIL
- The COPYUTIL tool does not support the Agilent FC cards.
FCFUPDATE
- JAGaf80734, JAGaf80731
On SD16B/32B/64B, rx8640, and rx7640 machines, FCFUPDATE
displays incorrect firmware revisions for the 2G
and 4G Fibre Channel cards (excluding the A6795A card).
This is due to an issue with the card's extended firmware Interface
(EFI) driver.
IODIAG
- Section 3 of the IPDIAG tool is not the default section. However, to
manually select and run section 3 for the following HP cards, users must
know the command line interface for efidiag:
A9782A, A9784A, A6826A, AB234B
- JAGaf79274
For IODIAG, users who use an Intel card as a boot device
with the 3.0.03 driver, will lose connection to the boot
server after diagnostic runs on the card.
Work around: Disabled diagnostics on LAN boot device.
- Due to an EFI driver issue on the AB287A 10GigE adapter,
section 2 of the IODIAG tool will fail on the following servers:
rx8640 server
rx7640 server
SD16B server
SD32B server
SD64B server
Problem Description:
The AB287A 10GigE adapter currently ships with EFI driver
version 1.1.3.0. On the servers mentioned above, this
version can cause section 2 of the IODIAG tool to fail. These
failures will be seen when using the IODIAG tool from the following
Offline Diagnostics CD media:
IPF0512 and IPF0603.
The failure message is:
SECTION 002
Running Extended Vendor Provided Test
"Testing HP AB287A 10 GigE Lan Port @ Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,2)/Pci(1|0).
ASIC internal loop back test Fail
Optical transponder internal loop back test Fail
This IO port failed with EFI_DEVICE_ERROR"
However, this failure message does not indicate that the adapter is
defective. To verify whether the adapter is functional,
follow the procedure described in the AB287A
Installation Guide. Install the HP-UX driver. Use
the link loop or the ping command to send packets to a remote system.
Note that the failure of an IODIAG tool does not impact the
functionality of the adapter.
Solution:
Update the EFI driver on the adapter.
You can download the latest EFI Driver from the following Web site:
www.hp.com (Software & Driver Downloads)
The procedure for downloading and flashing the EFI driver on the
10GigE adapter, visit the following Web site:
www.hp.com (Software & Driver Downloads)
PERFVER
1) On a zx2000 system, the self test for IDE devices such as CD/DVD drives
and Hard disks are not supported. Users must block the test on section 2
for zx2000
2) Known problem: JAGaf67662 is not fixed.
On a rx7640 system, SCSI self test on DVD drive TEAC
DV-28E fails.
PLUTODIAG
- This version assumes that the system has PLUTO 2.0 or later version.
REODIAG
- Sections 3, 5.11, and 5.12 will not run if FTP or PXE network driver
is loaded. This behavior is by design.
- To run Sections 3, 5.11, and 5.12, reboot the cell without starting the
FTP or PXE network driver.
- If Sections 3, 5.11 and 5.12 are run, FTP access will not work until the
machine is rebooted.
- Sections 3.1 and 3.3 will not run if PXE network driver is loaded.
This behavior is by design.
- REODIAG checks for VenMsg(0C8AFAFB-2A49-43AA-A449-5B2FD20AE6C8)
when executed from RAMDRIVE. This value must be present for REODIAG
to work from RAMDRIVE.
- ACPI must be set to the default configuration before running the
PLUTODIAG tools.
That is, fs0:>acpiconfig default
The system must be reset for the change to occur.
