Release notes for IPF0606
Overview
Offline Diagnostics Environment (ODE) is a platform that enables you to
troubleshoot a system that is not booted to the operating system. You can
use ODE to troubleshoot a system on which you cannot use the Online Diagnostics
Tools. ODE is also useful for some types of testing in which it is not desirable
to have to boot to the operating system first, as is often the case in manufacturing environment.
The IPF Offline Diagnostics and Utilities CD is a comprehensive offline diagnostic solution.
The CD includes a suite of diagnostic tools belonging to the Offline Diagnostics Environment
(ODE) plus a collection of other useful diagnostic utilities.
New Features
CIODIAG2
- Added the loopback command from the CIODIAG2> prompt.
The loopback command enables users to enable and disable external loopback test.
By default, the external loopback test is always disabled.
For more information about the loopback command, enter help at the CIODIAG2> prompt.
- Enhanced section 26 Intel Gigabit LAN Tests. The section 26 contains the following subtests:
- Internal memory pattern test.
- Internal loopback test (10Mbps) copper only.
- Internal loopback test (100Mbps) copper only.
- Internal loopback test (1000Mbps).
- External loopback test (10Mbps) (only on copper and if explicitly enabled by the user).
- External loopback test (100Mbps) (only on copper and if explicitly enabled by the user).
CIODIAG
- Added the loopback command from the CIODIAG> prompt.
The loopback command enables users to enable and disable external loopback test.
By default, the external loopback test is always disabled.
For more information about the loopback command, enter help at the CIODIAG2> prompt.
- Enhanced section 6 and 7, DEC LAN Internal/External loopback tests,
respectively.
Internal loopback test for section 6 includes multiple levels of loopback testing (MAC, MII, PHY).
The interface need not be connected to a live 10 Base-T network for external loopback test for section 7. However, the external loopback hood must be connected to the interface. External loopback tests are done at 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps.
- Enhanced sections 8 and 9 Broadcom Gigabit LAN tests:
- Internal memory pattern test.
- Internal loopback test (PHY).
- Internal loopback test (MAC).
- External loopback test (only if explicitly enabled by the user).
- Enhanced section 10 Intel Gigabit LAN Tests.
This section is divided into the following subtests:
- Internal memory pattern test.
- Internal loopback test (10Mbps) copper only.
- Internal loopback test (100Mbps) copper only.
- Internal loopback test (1000Mbps).
- External loopback test (10Mbps) (only on copper and if explicitly
enabled by the user).
- External loopback test (100Mbps) (only on copper and if explicitly
enabled by the user).
- Enhanced PDH UART tests (sections 11, 12, 13) to test PDH UARTs on
non-root cells in addition to the ones on the root-cell.
On SD64B, SD32B, SD16B, rx8640, and rx7640 servers, section 11, 12, and 13 will also
test the virtual UARTs used for nPar and fPar applications.
COPYUTIL DFDUTIL DFDUTILU
- Added support for AE311A and AE312A FC cards.
FCFUPDATE
IODIAG
- Added support for AE311A, AE312A, A8002A, A8003A, AB429A, AD193A(FC/LAN), and
AD194A(FC/LAN) IO cards.
MEMDIAG
- Added timestamp when SBE occurs.
- SBE logs for a specific error are displayed only once after
that error occurs.
TITANDIAG
- Added the LSI1030 SCSI controller as a targeted PCI device.
Defect Fixes
COPYUTIL DFDUTIL DFDUTILU MAPPER PERFVER
- JAGaf99241 is fixed
These programs sometimes display the following messages
when mapping the multiple FC controllers:
returning EFI_INVALID_PARAMETER
CPUDIAG MAPPER MEMDIAG MOABDIAG TOGODIAG
- JAGaf97749 is fixed
These programs now support up to 256 processors.
- JAGaf99241 is fixed
These programs now improve performance in systems
with large number of processors.
CPUDIAG
- JAGaf99238 is fixed
CPUDIAG hangs on systems with 256 processors.
MAPPER
- JAGaf99241 is fixed
MAPPER displays the following error message in
systems with 256 processors:
Error: GetEnabledProcessorsInfo() return status= 5
TOGODIAG
- JAGaf94066 is fixed
TOGODIAG hangs if the monarch is not set to the first
active CPU.
TITANDIAG
- JAGaf87811 is fixed
Now supports the LSI1030 SCSI Controller.
Known Problems and Workarounds
CIODIAG2
- The CIODIAG2 tool must not be run without rebooting the machine, if an FTP
script has been executed. Else, the LAN tests will generate a Machine Check
Abort (MCA).
COPYUTIL
- The COPYUTIL tool does not support the Agilent FC cards.
IODIAG
- To manually select and run section 3 for A9782A, A9784A, A6826A, and AB234B
cards, users must know the command line interface of the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) shell command, drvdiag.
- Due to an EFI driver issue on the AB287A 10GigE adapter,
section 2 of the IODIAG tool fails on the following servers:
- rx8640 server
- rx7640 server
- SD16B server
- SD32B server
- SD64B server
The AB287A 10GigE adapter is shipped with EFI driver
version 1.1.3.0. On rx8640, rx7640, SD16B, SD32B, and SD64B servers, the EFI
driver version 1.1.3.0 may cause section 2 of the IODIAG tool to fail. These
failures occur while using the IODIAG tool from the following Offline
Diagnostics CD media:
The error message is:
SECTION 002
Running Extended Vendor Provided Test
"Testing HP AB287A 10 GigE Lan Port @ Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,2)/Pci(1|0).
ASIC internal loop back test Fail
Optical transponder internal loop back test Fail
This IO port failed with EFI_DEVICE_ERROR"
The error message does not indicate that the adapter is
defective. To verify that the adapter is functional,
follow the procedure described in the AB287A PCI-X 10 Gigabit Ethernet Card Installation Guide. Install the HP-UX driver. Use
the link loop or the ping command to send packets to a remote system.
Note that the failure of an IODIAG tool does not impact the
functionality of the adapter.
Update the EFI driver on the adapter.
You can download the latest EFI Driver from the following Web site:
http://www.hp.com, (Software & Driver Downloads)
The information for downloading and flashing the EFI driver on the
10GigE adapter is available at the following Web site:

PERFVER
- On a zx2000 system, the self test for IDE devices such as CD/DVD drives
and Hard disks are not supported. Users must block the test on section 2
for zx2000
- On a rx7640 system, SCSI self test on DVD drive TEAC
DV-28E fails.
PLUTODIAG
- This version assumes that the system has PLUTO 2.0 or later version.
REODIAG
- Sections 3, 5.11, and 5.12 does not run if the FTP or the PXE network driver
is loaded. This behavior is by design.
- To run Sections 3, 5.11, and 5.12, reboot the cell without starting the
FTP or PXE network driver.
- If Sections 3, 5.11 and 5.12 are run, FTP access will not work until the
machine is rebooted.
- Sections 3.1 and 3.3 will not run if PXE network driver is loaded.
This behavior is by design.
- REODIAG checks for VenMsg(0C8AFAFB-2A49-43AA-A449-5B2FD20AE6C8)
when executed from RAMDRIVE. This value must be present for REODIAG
to work from RAMDRIVE.
- ACPI must be set to the default configuration before running the
PLUTODIAG tools.
That is, fs0:>acpiconfig default
The system must be reset for the change to occur.
- The REODIAG commands, rreg and rrev, may cause system MCA.
Users should not use these commands.
