- SD16000, SD32000, SD64000 (SuperDome Servers)
- HP Integrity Servers
- HP Integrity Servers SD16A, SD32A, SD64A
- HP Integrity Server rx7620
- HP Integrity Server rx8620
- HP Integrity Server rx2600
- HP Integrity Server rx4640
- HP Integrity Server rx5670
SysFaultMgmt is distributed via HP's Software Depot website (http://www.software.hp.com).
Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM)
The SysFaultMgmt tools, called "providers," operate within the Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) environment. Some knowledge of WBEM is required to make the best use of SysFaultMgmt.
WBEM is an industry-wide initiative to aid the management of large scale systems, based on a set of standards. It has three main components:
- A WBEM infrastructure, such as HP WBEM services. For background information, see:
- The hp WBEM solutions website at: http://www.hp.com/large/infrastructure/management/wbem/ .
- The manual WBEM Services System Administrator's Guide, available in the "network and systems management" section of docs.hp.com ( http://docs.hp.com/hpux/netsys). See the sub-section named "HP WBEM Services for HP-UX."
- A WBEM-based network management application, such as HP Systems Insight Manager, which is a user interface for controlling and monitoring resources within a large-scale system. Documentation on HP Systems Insight Manager is available at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim and at the "network and systems management" section of docs.hp.com ( http://docs.hp.com/hpux/netsys); see the sub-section named "HP Systems Insight Manager ."
- WBEM providers, which do the actual work of control and getting data. SysFaultMgmt is one set of providers among many that have been created by HP for its customers.
SysFaultMgmt Providers
SysFaultMgmt includes:
- CPU Instance Provider
- Memory Instance Provider
- EMS Wrapper Provider
The SysFaultMgmt providers are compliant with the Common Information Model (CIM) 2.7.2 Schema of the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF). They allow any network management application compliant with the CIM 2.7.2 Schema to query for information from the host server. The information is modeled in an intuitive object-oriented manner, and is delivered to the network management application through an industry standard interface (that is, using CIM specifications, via XML over HTTP). This allows for seamless integration into standards-compliant system management applications, such as HP Systems Insight Manager, to provide and holistic and comprehensive view of the HP server's wellbeing.
Data sheets for the SysFaultMgmt providers are available in the "System Fault Management" section at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/diag/.
CPU Instance Provider
The CPU Instance Provider gathers information about the central processors of an HP Server, including:
- Logical processor information, such as:
- Current clock speed
- Processor family
- Processor status information, including (de)configuration, failure status, and active/inactive status
- Load percentage
- Physical processor chip information, such as:
- FRU information
- Chip revisions and architecture revisions
- Location details, such as:
- Location attributes such as cabinet number, cell number, slot number, etc. (Only filled slot information will be available.)
- SPU ID (processor IDs, as seen by the operating system instance running the provider)
Memory Instance Provider
The Memory Instance Provider gathers information about the memory configuration of an HP Server, including:
- Memory slot information
- Memory module information, such as:
- Product information, such as serial number and part number.
- Memory Capacity
- Module form factor (for example, SIMM, DIMM, etc.) and type (for example, SDRAM, DDR, etc.)
- Module status (for example, configuration status, failure status, etc.)
EMS Wrapper Provider
The EMS Wrapper Provider translates hardware events from Event Monitoring System (EMS) hardware monitors into a form that is compatible with WBEM ("indications"). This allows WBEM-based network management application programs, such as HP Systems Insight Manager, to receive and respond to classic EMS events, without having to update the EMS system. Currently, the EMS Wrapper Provider generates indications for the following monitors under EMS:
For PA-RISC servers running HP-UX 11i v1 (HP-UX B.11.11) and later:
- LPMC (now CPU) (lpmc_em)
- Memory (dm_memory)
- Core HW (dm_core_hw)
- Chassis Code (dm_chassis)
- Disk (disk_em)
- High Availability Disk Array (ha_disk_array)
- Integrity Core Hardware Monitor(ia64_corehw)
- IPMI Forward Progress Log Monitor (fpl_em)
For more information on EMS Hardware monitors see http://docs.hp.com/hpux/diag/.
Current Version of SysFaultMgmt
The current downloadable version of the SysFaultMgmt Providers is:
Machine OS ID String Version String HP-UX 32-bit PA OS SysFaultMgmt32PA A.02.00.xx.xx HP-UX 64-bit PA OS SysFaultMgmt64PA A.02.00.xx.xx The "Machine OS" is the operating system and bit-mode (32-bit or 64-bit) in which the machine is booted. SysFaultMgmt Providers support 32-bit machines, 64-bit machines, and machines that can be booted in either 32-bit or 64-bit mode.
The "ID String" is the bundle name.
The "Version String" (for example, A.01.00.xx.xx) contains several digits ("xx") which are for HP internal use only and are irrelevant for customer use.
To find the version number of SysFaultMgmt, enter the command:
swlist -a revision BUNDLE_NAMEwhere BUNDLE_NAME is SysFaultMgmt32PA for 32-bit PA-RISC or SysFaultMgmt64PA for 64-bit PA-RISC.
The ouput of the command will be in a format like:
# SysFaultMgmt64PA A.02.00.01.01 SysFaultMgmt64PA.CPUPROVIDER64 A.02.00 SysFaultMgmt64PA.MEMPROVIDERS64 A.02.00 SysFaultMgmt64PA.HAS64 A.02.00 SysFaultMgmt64PA.GS64 A.02.00 SysFaultMgmt64PA.EMSWRAPPER64 A.02.00Further Information
For the latest and most complete information, see the "System Fault Management" section on the Diagnostics Homepage at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/diag/index.html.
For release-specific information (for example, a list of systems supported by a particular release of SysFaultMgmt), see the release notes for that release. The release notes can be viewed at the Diagnostics Homepage, or by looking at the ASCII file REL-NOTES.SFM in the directory /opt/sfm, available after the bundle is installed.
