The MO Utility Tool provides two main functions: 'System Quick Facts' and 'Service Complete Test'.
'System Quick Facts' function provides an overview of the vital data of all the MO devices attached to a HP9000 server or workstation.
'Service Complete Test' function allows you to validate that MO devices are fully functional by performing autochanger/drive verify tests.
The Support Tools Manager (STM) now offers a wide range of support tools for Magneto Optical (MO) devices to provide information about the devices, to exercise the devices or diagnose failure conditions on the devices.
However, all of these tools are oriented towards individual devices and only operate on a single devices at any given time. The purpose of the MO Utility is to augment these tools and provide functions that operate system wide for all the MO Devices connected to the system.
The majority of the support calls require the HP Support Engineers to collect a wide range of information about the system in order to get an overview of the system and the situation. Without that information it is very difficult to efficiently work on any system that requires service. And a considerable amount of that information is not easily available with standard software packages or thru the front panel.
One of the main functions of the MO Utility is to provide this function in an efficient and easy-to-use way, so that it can be communicated to everyone involved in a support call. This is provided by the 'System Quick Facts' function of the MO Utility.
The purpose of the 'Service Complete Test' function is to allow a HP Support Representative(HPSR) to validate that the MO devices are fully functional before he completes the visit. The idea is that every time a HPSR goes on site, he runs this function after all the work is completed to detect any potential side effects of whatever has been done to the unit and verify that everything is fully functional.
This section provides an overview of all the functions that are provided by the MO Utility Tool.
The 'System Quick Facts' function generates a log file that contains a wide range of information about the system. The function is run on all the MO Devices connected to that system, including:
This function should either be run by the customer before initiating the support call for the MO Device, or can be run by the HP Support Engineer at the beginning of a support call either on-site or remotely.
The tool will run for a short time(1-3 minutes) to collect the necessary information and then generate a report that is presented in a new window on the screen. This report can be either sent to a printer or saved in a file for further communication (print it in order to fax it, save it as a file in order to send it by e-mail).
The 'Service Complete Test' function performs autochanger verify test on all autochangers and drive verify test on all standalone MO drives.
To run 'Service Complete Test', perform the following steps:
This function should be run by the HP Support Engineer at the end of a service to insure that everything is fully functional.
