This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11.11 (September 2005) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).

Note: No tape drives are supported by Online Diagnostics on HP-UX. Although some of the Support Tools Manager (STM) tools may function with tape drives, they are not supported. The diagnostic tools and utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L&TT). These tools are available at the following site:

Overview

The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a complete set of online support tools for HP-UX systems, enabling users to verify and troubleshoot PA-RISC system hardware, and to examine system logs.

STM offers several tool types, including information tools, verifiers, exercisers, expert tools, firmware update tools, diagnostics and utilities.

The EMS Hardware Monitors are installed along with STM (as of IPR 9902). The EMS Hardware Monitors is an important tool for maintaining system availability. They enable users to monitor the operation of a wide variety of hardware products. They also provide instant alerts when a system fails or when an unusual event occurs. Changes in this Release

The online Support Tools Manager (STM) is enhanced for the current HP-UX 11i release.

Changes to User Interface and Platform

• JAGaf46228
  A new option called page is introduced for the map command. When the user types map at the command prompt, the system map output is displayed on the screen. The system map output may run into pages, and it may not be user friendly. The page option will display a paginated output of the system map.
  
  Type the following command at the cstm prompt to obtain a paginated output of the system map:
  cstm> map page

  Note: The functionality of the map command is not altered. When users type map at the cstm prompt, they will still see the system map output, which is not paginated.

  The 10 Gigabit Network Interface Card (NIC), AB287A, was not mapped in STM. This issue is resolved.
• JAGaf53767
  On the rp8420 and the rp7420 class of machines, the memory information tool used to report 32 DIMM slots instead of 16 DIMM slots. The memory information tool has been modified to resolve this issue.
• JAGaf53781
  On cellular platforms, when there are multiple error addresses on the same page, memlogd was not synchronizing the page state of all the error addresses. This problem is resolved.
• JAGaf53831
  The dm_memory monitor was not generating events 4000-4200 after clearing Page Deallocation Table (PDT). It used to generate events before clearing the PDT. As a result, the memory error log is deleted. However, the history information of the monitor is not deleted. As a result, the supression time specified with the event does not permit generation of another event within 24 hours. This issue is resolved.

  The cause action message of event# 1839 of dm_chassis has been modified.
• JAGaf69483
  The Memory error logging daemon (memlogd) used to crash if there were more than 512 Page DeAllocation Table entries. This issue is resolved.
• JAGae36617
  Using CPU Expert Tool, when the user selects a deconfigured CPU for reconfiguration, all the deconfigured CPUs are reconfigured automatically. This issue is resolved.
• JAGaf62382
  The diagnostic deamon process, diagmond, terminates when the system call, getsockname(), fails with error number set to EINTR. It means that diagmond received a signal while it was in a blocked state. As a result, the system call terminated with error number set to EINTR. Under such conditions system call can be retrieved. To fix this issue, the system call can be re-invoked 5 times.
• JAGaf50578
  On multiple partition systems, dm_chassis running on one partition used to report problems generated on a different partition. This issue is resolved.
• JAGaf65955
  The event description for the event 1352 (dm_chasis monitor ) was incorrect. This issue is resolved.
• JAGaf48231
  The Id module of STM is modified to identify MSA1500 with Active-Active firmware.

General Changes to Tools

  The return values of certain diag2 ioctl calls were not being handled properly. This issue is resolved.
• JAGaf65167
  On V-Class machines, the activity logs of CPU expert tools, information tools, and exercise tools had incorrect messages. This issue is resolved.

Changes to Specific Tools

  • JAGaf48634
    The information tool for Peripheral Configuration Interface (PCI) used to report wrong information. This issue is resolved.
  • JAGaf53750
    Memlogd incorrectly reports that the PDT entry is invalid on the rp4440, rp3440, and the C8000 system. This issue is resolved.
  • JAGaf47526
    System information tool is enabled for PA 8900 systems.
• Expert Tools
  • JAGae36617
    In the CPU expert tool, when the user selects a deconfigured CPU for reconfiguration, all deconfigured CPUs are reconfigured automatically. This issue is resolved.
  • JAGaf11524
    On J-Class machines, CPU deconfiguration and reconfiguration was failing. The CPU expert tool has been modified to resolve this issue.
  • JAGaf53947
    On HP DVD-ROM 304, HP DVD-ROM 305 and PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-303 the expert tool prints the following caution statement before starting the tool:
    CAUTION
    The selected device, Optical Storage Device, is not supported by this tool. Unexpected results may occur after executing the tools against the selected device.
    The SCSI Expert tool has been modified to support HP DVD-ROM 304, HP DVD-ROM 305 and PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-303 devices. Hence the caution message will not be printed.
  • JAGaf50160
    The new SMART disks do not support the read and write error page updates. The disk expert tool has been modified to fix this issue.
• Firmware Update Tools
  • JAGaf62301
    Disk firmware download on Compaq drives used to fail. This issue is resolved.
• Utilities
  • JAGaf53745
    The vd command of Logtool is modified not to show "DIMM Extenders" in the output if that machine does not have any DIMM Extenders.

Use CHAnge Request Tracker (CHART) to report defects in STM. The project name is diag for individual tools, and diag.stm.ui.hpux for the user interface. If you do not have access to CHART, contact an HP representative to file a defect on your behalf.
