This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11.23 (December 2005) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).
Note: No tape drives are supported by Online Diagnostics on HP-UX. Although some of the Support Tools Manager (STM) tools may function with tape drives, they are not supported. The diagnostic tools and utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L&TT). These tools are available at the following site:
http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools
The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system, enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.
STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.
The following subsections describe the changes made to STM for the current release:
Special
The following information applies to both Itanium Processor Family (IPF) and PA-RISC systems:
- The STM tools are supported on SD16B, SD32B, SD64B, rx8640, rx7640, and BL60p systems.
- The IPMI Event Viewer GUI must be accessed from System Management Homepage (SMH).
Note: Event Viewer binary is moved from /usr/sbin/diag/contrib/ to /opt/hpsmh/data/htdocs/slview directory. The /usr/sbin/diag/contrib/slview link is created to point to the new binary.- The IPMI Event Viewer is enhanced to display the description of an IPMI event on Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Terminal User Interface (TUI).
- JAGaf46228
A new option called page is introduced for the map command. When you type map at the command prompt, the system map output is displayed on the screen. The system map output may run into pages, and it may not be user friendly. The page option displays a paginated output of the system map.
Type the following command at the cstm prompt to obtain a paginated output of the system map:
cstm> map pageNote: The functionality of the map command is not changed. Typing map at the cstm prompt displays the system map output, which is not paginated.
The following information applies to IPF systems only:
- The CPU tools and libraries are enabled for Montecito based systems.
Changes to User Interface and Platform
The following information applies to both Itanium Processor Family (IPF) and PA-RISC systems:
- OnlineDiag is enabled to display entries for SAS MPT Adapter in the system map (stm, mstm and xstm interfaces ). But none of the tools are enabled.
- JAGaf66476
When Online Diagnostics is started and stopped several times in quick succession, the PSMCTD daemon terminates abruptly indicating that the PSMCTD daemon has received an unexpected signal. This is a timing issue that was not consistently reproducible. This issue is resolved. The following information applies to IPF systems only:
- JAGae56429
During the event qualification process, monitors log the following error message in the api.log file repeatedly:
_______ERROR______________________________________________________________________________________________________
User event occurred at Tue Jan 14 15:00:36.860055 2003 Process ID: 7374 (/usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/.../sysstat_em) Log Level: Error, the model string (ia64HP) for the system is not recognized. Therefore, a default box_id of 0 is returned. Tools, system daemons, and monitors may not run or may not be able to perform some system dependent functions. _______ERROR_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
This error message is generated on an IPF system that has the model string set to an incorrect value. This issue is resloved. The Diaglogd daemon logs the error into diaglogd's deamon activity log file.- STM is modified to display EVA 3000 (HSV 101) and EVA 5000 (HSV 111) disk arrays on the system map (stm, mstm and xstm). However, none of the tools are enabled for these disk arrays.
The following information applies to PA-RISC systems only:
- JAGaf50578
When a chassis event is generated, the information in the event description does not display the name of the partition that generated the event. This issue is resolved. Now, the domain name is displayed in the chassis log.- JAGaf65412
The Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) Rank is displayed as an hexadecimal number. Earlier the DIMM Rank was displayed as a decimal number.- JAGaf48231
The ID module of STM is modified to identify MSA1500 with Active-Active firmware. The msamon monitor is enhanced to monitor MSA1500 with Active-Active firmware.- JAGaf69483
The Memory Error Logging Daemon (memlogd) crashes if there are more than 512 Page Deallocation Table (PDT) entries. This issue is resolved.- When a CPU Information tool is run on multiple CPUs, the Processor Internal Memory (PIM) information of CPU number 0 was displayed repetitively for all other CPUs. This issue is resolved.
- JAGaf62382
The diagmond daemon terminates with the following message when a system call fails:
Exit due to system port failure.
This is because diagmond receives a signal while it is in the blocked state. To fix this issue, the system call is reinvoked upto to a maximun of 5 times.General Changes to Tools
- When users issue the request, disable monitor, using monconfig, the following error message may be displayed:
KILLMON ERROR: could not find a dictionary file containing the monitor name '/storage/events/disk_arrays/AutoRAID'
This error messages is reworded as follows to convey the correct information:
KILLMON ERROR: could not find a dictionary file containing the resource path '/storage/events/disk_arrays/AutoRAID'Changes to Specific Tools
Logtool
Information Tool
- JAGaf53745
The vd command of Logtool is modified not to show "DIMM Extenders" in the output if that machine does not have any DIMM Extenders.
Expert Tool
- JAGaf36936
The system information tool does not display the correct status of the power supply when it fails. This issue is resolved.
The following information applies to IPF systems only:
- JAGaf60718
The system information tool displays original product number on cellular platforms.- JAGaf68428
The STM information tool displays phantom disks on DS2405 disk enclosure. This issue is resolved.
- JAGae36617
Using the CPU expert tool, when a deconfigured CPU is marked for reconfiguration, all the deconfigured CPUs were reconfigured automatically. This issue is resolved.
Before running the STM CPU Exerciser tool on a PA 8900 machine, the value of the kernel parameter, shmmax, should Be changed from the default value of 64 Mb (0X4000000) to 128 Mb (0X8000000) using System Administration Manager(SAM).
If the SysFaultMgmt product is installed on your system, you must take the following steps, before and after updating the OnlineDiag product:
/sbin/init.d/cimserver stop
/sbin/init.d/cimserver start
NOTE: Should you need to kill monitoring during normal system operation, you must use steps 1 and 3, above, to avoid an automatic restart of monitoring; step 2 is the action you need to perform while monitoring is turned off.
Future updates to SysFaultMgmt and OnlineDiag will resolve this problem.
Symptoms: The Memory Page Deallocation (MPD), which runs on most current HP-UX computer systems, does not work on the RX 4610 computer. The activity log for memlogd displays the following message: "unsupported device."
Cause/Action: MPD cannot be implemented on RX 4610, because of the design of that system. The memlogd daemon cannot run on it.
Symptoms: In xstm, no online help appears when you enter a command for online help. The diagnostics themselves are still functional.
Cause/Action: Online help for xstm requires that the Netscape browser be installed on the computer. The xstm interface invokes the Netscape browser to display HTML files located in the diagnostics sub-directories on disk. (The mstm and cstm interfaces does not use the Netscape browser.)
The easiest way to install the Netscape browser is from the AR (Application Release) Media supplied with the computer.
Alternatively, you can view the online help for xstm, mstm, and cstm on the Internet.
