This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11.23 (March 2006) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).
The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system, enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.
STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.
The following subsections describe the changes made to STM for the current release:
Special
Online Diagnostics are enhanced to enable the following servers:
- HP Integrity rx1620-2 1-socket server with IntelŪ ItaniumŪ 2 processor
- HP Integrity rx2620-4 2-socket server with IntelŪ ItaniumŪ 2 processors
- HP Integrity rx4640-8 4-socket server with IntelŪ ItaniumŪ 2 processors
- HP Integrity rx7640-16 8-socket server with IntelŪ ItaniumŪ 2 processors
- HP Integrity rx8640-32 16-socket server with IntelŪ ItaniumŪ 2 processors
- The 9000, 800, and the SD16B Super Dome server having 16 sockets for new IPF processors
- The 9000, 800, and the SD32B Super Dome server having 32 sockets for new IPF processors
- The 9000, 800, and the SD64B Super Dome server having 64 sockets for new IPF processors
Changes to User Interface and Platform
The following information applies to both Itanium Processor Family (IPF) and PA-RISC systems:
- For XSTM, on IPF machines, the default Web browser was Netscape. The default Web browser is now changed to Mozilla.
On an XSTM interface, if you click on a help option, the help files are displayed on a Mozilla browser. If the Mozilla browser is not installed on the system, you will have to configure the Web browser to view the help files. To configure the Web browser, follow the instructions provided in the User Interface (UI) Activity Log.- JAGaf83091
The default_fpl_em.clcfg file for the fpl_em monitor includes incorrect severity string for informational events. The default_fpl_em.clcfg file includes the severity string Info instead of Information. This issue is fixed.- During an HP-UX update (ignite) process, a core file may be generated at the following location:
/etc/opt/resmon/
If the file command on the core file displays the following output, the functionality of the OnlineDiag product is not affected:
/etc/opt/resmon/core: ELF-32 core file - IA64 from 'fc60mon' - received SIGSEGV
It is safe to delete the core file. The following information applies to PA-RISC systems only:
- When you run memory information tools on the rp3440, rp4440 and the C8000 servers, the unpopulated DIMM slots are not shown. This issue is resolved.
Starting HP-UX 11.23 March 2006 release, the unpopulated DIMM slots is also displayed. For example, in the following case, 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B have unpopulated DIMM slots. The size of the DIMM slots is 0.DIMM Slot Size (MB) --------- --------- 0A 512 0B 512 1A 512 1B 512 2A 512 2B 512 3A 512 3B 512 4A 0 4B 0 5A 0 5B 0JAGaf80882
The pci_ia64 information tool contains an incorrect entry about the product description of the LAN card, A9784. The part number of the LAN card is displayed as AB545-60001 instead of A9784-60001. This issue is fixed.
If the SysFaultMgmt product is installed on your system, you must take the following steps, before and after updating the OnlineDiag product:
/sbin/init.d/cimserver stop
/sbin/init.d/cimserver start
NOTE: Should you need to kill monitoring during normal system operation, you must use steps 1 and 3, above, to avoid an automatic restart of monitoring; step 2 is the action you need to perform while monitoring is turned off.
Future updates to SysFaultMgmt and OnlineDiag will resolve this problem.
Symptoms: The Memory Page Deallocation (MPD), which runs on most current HP-UX computer systems, does not work on the RX 4610 computer. The activity log for memlogd displays the following message: "unsupported device."
Cause/Action: MPD cannot be implemented on RX 4610, because of the design of that system. The memlogd daemon cannot run on it.
Symptoms: In xstm, no online help appears when you enter a command for online help. The diagnostics themselves are still functional.
Cause/Action: Online help for xstm requires that the Netscape browser be installed on the computer. The xstm interface invokes the Netscape browser to display HTML files located in the diagnostics sub-directories on disk. (The mstm and cstm interfaces does not use the Netscape browser.)
The easiest way to install the Netscape browser is from the AR (Application Release) Media supplied with the computer.
Alternatively, you can view the online help for xstm, mstm, and cstm on the Internet.
