Release Notes for STM on HP-UX 11.31 (February 2007)
This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11.31 (February 2007) release of the
Support Tools Manager (STM).
Note: On the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system, Online Diagnostics does not
support tape drives. Although some of the Support Tools Manager (STM)
tools may work with tape drives, they are not supported. The diagnostic
tools and utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks
Library and Tape Tools (L and TT). These tools are available at:
http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools
Overview
The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for
the HP-UX system, enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and
to examine system logs.
STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers,
Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.
Defect Fixes
This section describes the defect fixes and changes made to STM for the current release.
The following information applies to both Itanium Processor Family (IPF) and
PA-RISC systems:
- For the xstm interface, on IPF machines, the default help viewer was Netscape.
This is now changed to Mozilla. If the Mozilla browser is not installed on the system,
users must follow the instructions provided in UI Activity Log to configure the browser
to use the online help.
- The IPMI Event Viewer GUI must be accessed from System Management Homepage (SMH).
The product SysMgmtWeb is a prerequisite for launching the IPMI Event Viewer GUI.
Note: The Event Viewer binary is moved from /usr/sbin/diag/contrib/ to /opt/hpsmh/data/htdocs/slview
directory. The following link is created to point to the new binary:
/usr/sbin/diag/contrib/slview
- The psmctd daemon abruptly terminates indicating receipt of an unexpected
signal when Online Diagnostics is started and stopped in quick succession too
many times. This issue does not appear consistently. This issue is now fixed.
- The default browser to view the online help for Online Diagnostics is Mozilla.
- MSTM crashes when the device HP A5294A is connected to the system.
This is because when an unrecognized SCSI Processor is connected to the system,
the ID module returns an un-initialized string to the diagmond daemon.
If the un-initialized string is a Unicode character then mstm crashes. This issue is now fixed.
- JAGaf37354
There is a memory leak in disk_em while polling for SCSI devices,
if the SCSI device is not Online Addition and Replacement (OLAR) capable. This issue is now fixed.
- JAGaf47526
The System Information tool is enabled on SD16A, SD32A, SD64A, rp8420,
and rp7420 class of machines with PA8900 processor.
- JAGaf46228
A new option called page is introduced for the map command.
When you type map at the command prompt, the system map output is displayed on the screen.
The system map output may run into pages, and it may not be user friendly.
The page option displays a paginated output of the system map.
- Online Diagnostics is enhanced to support legacy and agile view of map.
- A new command called amap is introduced to view agile devices on the system
map using the cstm interface. For the mstm and xstm interfaces, in the drop down
menu under System, a new sub-menu called View Legacy Map and View Agile Map is introduced.
- The diagmond daemon checks for the following activities in an interval of 30 minutes from
the previous remap of system hardware:
- CPU migration
- CPU deactivation
- CPU activation
If any one of these activities occurs, the diagmond daemon rebuilds the system map.
The remap of system hardware occurs when none of the tools are active.
- The following cards are enabled:
- AD278A PCI 8 port serial MUX adapter
- AD279A PCI 64 port serial MUX adapter
The following information applies to IPF systems only:
- During an event qualification process, the following error gets logged repeatedly in the api.log file:
User event occurred at Tue Jan 14 15:00:36.860055 2003
Process ID: 7374 (/usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/.../sysstat_em)
Log Level: Error
The model string (ia64HP) for the system is not recognized. Therefore, a default box_id of 0 is being returned.
Tools, system daemons and monitors may not run or may not be able to perform some system dependent functions.
This issue is now fixed.
The error is not logged repeatedly in the ttapi.log file. Instead, the diaglogd daemon logs the error in
the diaglogd's deamon activity log file only once.
- When a pci_ia64 Information Tool is run on a card whose part number is A9784-60001,
the Information Tool displays the part number as AB545-60001. This issue is now fixed.
- The xstm interface does not show the graphical image of HP EVA GL and HP EVA GL Lite. This issue is now fixed.
- The licensing module does not generate passwords beyond Feb 2007.
Hence the dependent modules cease to work. This issue is now fixed.
The licensing module is updated to generate password until the year 2011.
- The diaglogd daemon is enhanced to support the Machine Check Abort (MCA) error recovery feature.
- The disk tools for the HP Virtual Machine guest OS are disabled.
- The disk_em and dm_ses_enclosure monitors fail to identify the hardware path
of the SCSI-3 device. The disk tools and disk monitors display I/O error messages.
This issue is now fixed.
- On systems that are connected to many hardware devices, the remap operation from the
CSTM interface takes longer to execute. It appears as if the system is hanging. This issue is now fixed.
- When the LCPU attribute is turned on or off dynamically or a CPU is activated or de-activated,
the output of the map command is inconsistent with the output of the ioscan command.
This issue is now fixed.
- On Vpar systems, the CPU exerciser hangs if Hyper Threading (HT) is on. This issue is now fixed.
- The following Online Diagnostics tools are removed from the xref files for HP-UX 11.31:
- JAGag26673
Online Diagnostics supports the IA64 BL860C and the cx2620 Servers.
The following information applies to PA-RISC systems only:
- JAGaf53909
On rp7420, rp8420, SD16A, SD32A, and SD64A class of machines
the DIMM serial number in the event data is appended by the DIMM part number.
This issue is now fixed. The DIMM part number does not append to the DIMM serial number.
Instead it is displayed separately.
- JAGaf73371
On systems with multiple CPU's, when the STM CPU Information
tool is executed either on a single CPU or simultaneously on multiple CPUs, the
CPU PIM information of CPU number 0 is repetitively displayed for all the selected
processors in the system, instead of the individual processor's PIM information. This issue is now fixed.
- JAGaf36936
The System Information Tool does not provide accurate information
about the status of power supplies. This issue is now fixed.
- JAGaf62382
The diagmond daemon process is terminated when a call to
getsockname() fails with errono set to EINTR. It means that diagmond process
received a signal while it was in a blocked state. This issue is fixed. Since
procuring a socket it critical for diagmond, the system call is re-invoked up
to maximum of 5 times.
- JAGaf50578
When a chassis event is generated, the information in the
event description does not display the name of the partition that generated the
event. This issue is resolved. Now, the domain name is displayed in the chassis log.
- JAGaf65412
The Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) Rank is displayed as a hexadecimal number.
Earlier the DIMM Rank was displayed as a decimal number.
- JAGaf53745
The vd command of the logtool does not correctly display the DIMM Extender
slot in Memory Report of the logtool. This issue is now fixed.
- JAGaf64483
If DIMMs are not populated on a DIMM slot, the DIMM slot entry is not
logged in the Memory Information Tool logs. This issue is now fixed. The Memory Information Tool now
displays details of unpopulated slots for the following classes of machines:
- The memlogd daemon reports the memory address on rp3440, rp4440, and C8000 systems in an
incorrect format. The Operating System does not support this format and hence the action taken
by the Operating System upon the occurrence of a single bit error is incorrect. This issue is now fixed.
This fix requires the firmware version higher than 44.21 to be installed on the machine.
- The diagmond daemon and mslib library is enhanced to handle the EVM events for Cell
Online addition and deletion (Cell OL*) of Cell, CPU, and Memory. The diagmond daemon
rebuilds the system map to account for the dynamic changes in hardware due to Cell Online
addition and deletion (Cell OL*) of Cell, CPU, and Memory.
- The Memory Information Tool displays only 256 Single bit error entries from the memlog file.
This issue is now fixed. The Memory Information tool now displays all entries in the memlog file.
- The Memory Error Logging Daemon (memlogd) crashes if there are more than 512 Page Deallocation Table (PDT) entries. This issue is now fixed.
- The Disk Information tool now supports the new drivers such as sdisk_leg and esdisk.
- Hardware inventory (map) will be rebuilt when the legacy mass storage stack is enabled or disabled.
This is done because enabling or disabling the legacy stack will result in enabling or disabling the
legacy device special files corresponding to the mass storage devices.
- The mpt_scsi information tool contains incorrect SCSI initiator ID. This issue is now fixed.
