This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11i v2 (June 2007) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).

Overview

The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system, enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.

STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.

Defect Fixes

The following information applies to PA-RISC and Itanium-based systems:

• JAGag15179
  On systems with online Field Replacement Unit (FRU) addition and deletion capability, the diagmond daemon consumption of CPU and memory is high at 90 minutes and 180 minutes after OS boot-up. This problem is fixed.
• JAGag28535
  If you provide an incomplete monitor name to send a test event using the send_test_utility, no error is displayed. Instead, a message is displayed that the command is executed successfully. However, test events are not logged in the event.log file. This problem is fixed. An error message is displayed if the monitor name is incomplete.

The following information applies only to PA-RISC-based systems:

• JAGag12186
  The cclogd daemon generates an incorrect exit message on IPMI-supported systems. The message is corrected to indicate that the cclogd daemon exits because IPMI is supported on the system.

The following information applies only to Itanium-based systems:

• JAGag28841
  STM is enabled to support the AD307A PCI I/O card.
• JAGag28138
  Disk tools are disabled on HP Virtual Machines guest operating system.

Known Problems

If the SysFaultMgmt product is installed on your system, you must take the following steps, before and after updating the OnlineDiag product:

1. Shut down the cimserver subsystem through the command line:

                   /sbin/init.d/cimserver stop
                   

2. Perform the OnlineDiag update.
3. After the update is completed, restart the cimserver subsystem through the command line:

                   /sbin/init.d/cimserver start
                   

NOTE: Should you need to kill monitoring during normal system operation, you must use steps 1 and 3, above, to avoid an automatic restart of monitoring; step 2 is the action you need to perform while monitoring is turned off.

Future updates to SysFaultMgmt and OnlineDiag will resolve this problem.

Symptoms: The Memory Page Deallocation (MPD), which runs on most current HP-UX computer systems, does not work on the RX 4610 computer. The activity log for memlogd displays the following message: "unsupported device."

Cause/Action: MPD cannot be implemented on RX 4610, because of the design of that system. The memlogd daemon cannot run on it.

Symptoms: In xstm, no online help appears when you enter a command for online help. The diagnostics themselves are still functional.

Cause/Action: Online help for xstm requires that the Mozilla browser be installed on the computer. The xstm interface invokes the Mozilla browser to display HTML files located in the diagnostics sub-directories on disk. (The mstm and cstm interfaces does not use the Mozilla browser.)

The easiest way to install the Mozilla browser is from the AR (Application Release) Media supplied with the computer.

Use CHAnge Request Tracker (CHART) to report defects in STM. The project name is diag.stm.tools.hpux for individual tools, and diag.stm.ui.hpux for the user interface. If you do not have access to CHART, contact an HP representative to enter a defect for you.
